Missions Lifeline 2026

It is in the books! For those of you who were not able to attend Missions Lifeline, it was the best one out of the last three years (they get better each year). Dr. Clark is a great speaker and he definitely supports Indiana Baptists and WMU. In attending his breakout session on Evangelism I discovered he is also a very good and understandable teacher (almost makes me want to go back to college).

The missionary speaker was also very good; however, I must admit I am biased. I met Matt and Amanda Hadden over 10 years ago at my church in Georgia. My church supported them for many years for a week of camp at Chunku Waste, in Porcupine, SD. I will finally be going there on a mission trip at the end of this month. There were other excellent breakout sessions but we only had time to attend two. I heard many good comments on the other breakout sessions that I would have loved to attend.

I did, however, find the time to visit the coffee truck after lunch. Speaking of lunch – the Indiana Disaster Response (DR) folks were the heroes of the day! They cooked us a delicious BBQ lunch (chicken tenders for the kiddos) and as lunch was ready, served, and cleaned up they started leaving, as each of their job(s) were completed, to return to responding to the flooding disasters. Thank God and all praise to God for those who serve others like our Indiana DR serves.

A big shout out to Pastor Kinion and Calvary Baptist Church, they were such sweet hosts.

It was a wonderful day of fellowship; worshipping in song with Alex and Ali Rose Darnall; learning; commissioning others to serve; making new friends; and enjoying the blessings of God through others who were willing to serve God through their talents.

History was made on June 7, 2026, when during the Missions Celebration at the SBC the first African American WMU President, Carolyn Fountain, was elected! Carolyn is the 25th WMU President. She and her husband, Leroy, currently live in Monroe, Louisiana.
“We welcome Carolyn Fountain into this sacred season of leadership,” said Sandy Wisdom-Martin, executive director of WMU, SBC. “She comes to the presidency carrying a lifetime of faithful service and leadership experiences woven through every facet of WMU and Southern Baptist life. Across our denomination, she is admired not only for her wisdom and grace, but for the Christlike example she consistently lives before others.

“Carolyn leads with excellence, serves with humility, and approaches every calling with steadfast devotion and remarkable care,” Wisdom-Martin continued. “Her influence has long been a source of encouragement and strength, and her leadership will inspire generations to come. We go forward with deep confidence and great joy, knowing she will guide WMU with vision, integrity, and unwavering faithfulness.”

WMU Holds Virtual Annual January Board Meetings

The annual January Board Meeting of Woman’s Missionary Union was held January 8 – 9. The following information comes from various reports on the previous year of missions-related activities initiated by associational, state, and national missions organizations to fulfill WMU’s purpose of proclaiming the good news of Jesus to all nations. 2021 was a great year for missions-related activities as WMU partnered with the following agencies and entities:

North American Mission Board

Kevin Ezell, President of NAMB, reported that an all-time giving record occurred last spring when $66.5 million was given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions. He stated that even during the pandemic, 36 new churches were planted. The theme for this year is “United” and the offering goal is $70 million Sadly, only ½ of Southern Baptist churches participate in this annual offering.

International Mission Board

The president of IMB, Paul Chitwood, gave an encouraging report on what was accomplished with God’s grace during the past year. Here are some of the statistics he provided: 91% of IMB missionaries are engaging unreached people groups; 144,000 new believers were reported; 8,700 were baptized; 18,000 new churches were planted; and 12,000 pastors were trained. He said, “The nations are waiting and we must go.”
